Braids can be the best way to add a bit of texture and flair to even the dullest hair style; but many people are fearful of the difficulty associated with the braid look due to level of intricacy and “instagram-ability.”
But do not fret. I have been a braid skeptic for many years, but when I took the first leap of faith, it turned out much better than I thought. Sure, I made a few mistakes here and there, but it gave me the confidence to branch out into other ideas - some crazy, some not. Braids are the perfect gateway to getting you out of your hairstyle funk; so that whether you just want to spice up a updo or get creative by adding flowers or a ribbon, braids are the perfect place to start your hair journey.
Now short hair can be a bit of a different monster from the two other types of hair I will be discussing. Without the length of long hair or the texture of curly hair it can seem that braids and buns are an impossible task for short hair. However, do not fret. There are still options out there for you. I follow several beauty influencers online and ever since I did the big chop to cut off all of my dead, heat damaged hair, I have been searching for influencers who find new and creative ways to style short hair. This is when I came across Milabu on Youtube. She has an entire video that is 10 EASY Different Bun Hairstyles For Short Hair. Each of these is well explained and easy to follow. So no matter your texture or length, she has a style that will work for everyone!
Now if you have had medium/long hair for your whole life, then at some point or another you have probably braided your hair. Whether out of boredom or to keep it out of your eyes, long hair can be both a blessing and a curse. When looking into doing updos or cute braided buns, there is always the fear that there will be too much hair to make a cute style or that your hair won’t hold the style for very long and you will have to just give up and throw it up in a messy bun. There are options for those with more hair if you are looking to add some dimension to your bun with some braids. Someone I have followed for years in regards to hair tips is Lilith Moon. She has a video entitled Braided updo hairstyle for Christmas holidays, New Year party, medium/long hair tutorial that has some really cute ideas that work for those who have medium/long hair.
Another tip I have for those who have long hair is that before you braid your hair, take a curling iron to it to make it a bit more wavy and that will help in the overall styling of your hair so that your hair won’t lay so flat to your head when you begin your braid or bun.
Curly hair can be a pain in the morning when you are desperate to get ready as quick and easy as possible; but sometimes that easy style isn’t going to last you through the day. When braiding curl/natural hair it can be time consuming and often seem not worth it in the end. However, if you are looking to get braided buns that will last, I highly suggest following this tutorial by Franchelli on Youtube. It is for braided buns and it is not only cute, but it also will stay in place through whatever you have to do throughout the day. And if you are worried about time, this style is completed in under ten minutes in her tutorial!
