The Best Way To Store Hair Extensions

First, you want to make sure that the extensions are in good condition, so they are are picture perfect next time you want to rock them. Start by gently combing them with a comb designed for extensions like Jon Renau's Wide Tooth Comb or BeautiMark's Hair Trix comb for extensions. (Hint, always start at the bottom and work your way up to prevent breakage).

You'll also want to ensure that you've closed all the clips so that they don't get entangled in the hairs and cause damage. If you're extensions are freshly washed, you'll want to blow-dry them (human hair extensions and heat-friendly extensions only, please).

If you have human hair extensions, you'll want to keep the ends moisturized to avoid split-ends so use a product like this serum for human hair extensions. For synthetic extensions, always use a product designed for synthetic hair like BeautiMark's leave-in conditioner for synthetic extensions. Next, gather the hairs in each weft at the ends and secure them with a hair tie to keep them in pristine condition.

Now that your extensions are primed for storage, you'll want to choose a location. The best place for your extensions to get some rest is in a dry, room-temperature place that's out of direct sunlight.

There are a few different options for a storage container. You can use the original box that you're extensions came in if you still have it, or use a shoe box. When using the box method, carefully twist the extensions into a circle with the ends closest to the middle and place them in the box. It's also a good idea to keep them on a high shelf, away from pets and children, so they won't be moved or crushed.

Our favorite storage method is a hanging bag that doesn't take up any shelf space and keeps your extensions away from harm and off the ground.
